34th King Matjaž's Castles

The following lines list the terms and conditions for participating in the snow castle and sculpture building competition.
Please read them carefully.

• The competition is team-based (5–8 members), with no age restrictions;
• teams may use only natural materials for construction: snow, water, ice, and wicker;
• each team is assigned a 5 x 5 m building space;
• each team must bring its own building tools (buckets, small saws, shovels, sleds, etc.) and a sketch of the snow castle, which they will place on their team’s numbered post;
• each team must prepare a short presentation to be performed on the event stage during construction. The team with the most original presentation will receive a special award;

• building plots will be double-numbered. Once a team selects its plot on-site, they must remove the RED number from the post and take it to the registration staff. Submitting the number at the registration point
• at the registration area, all teams will receive meal vouchers and garbage bags;
• awards will be presented to the three most beautiful castles chosen by King Matjaž and the expert jury, who will evaluate only the castles and sculptures thematically related to the legend of King Matjaž;
• a separate award will be given for the most beautiful castle or snow sculpture chosen by the public;
• during construction, the jury will check the number of team members participating and the materials used. Teams are expected to follow fair-play principles and respect all construction rules;
• Please place all waste into the provided bag after construction and dispose of it in the container;
• any advertising, distribution of promotional materials, or performance of promotional or commercial activities is prohibited on the building plots;
• If you wish to have an open fire pit, you must provide your own firewood.

PRE-REGISTRATION AND REGISTRATION ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT

• The registration fee is €8.00 per team member.
• For pre-registration, the application form published on www.crna.si must be completed. A correctly completed form means that the team agrees to the competition rules.
• The pre-registration fee must be paid to the following bank account (TRR): SI56 0110 0010 0007 227 (reference: 00 14 006 – team number).
• Team registration is possible from Monday, 3 November 2025, until Saturday, 31 January 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the event site.
• Upon registration, each team receives meal vouchers and garbage bags at the registration desk. After registering, each team places their sketch on the numbered post of the selected building plot.

• The date of payment is considered to be the day when the team representative completes the payment at the organizer’s office, a bank, or a post office. Registration is valid on the day the full team payment is received.
• A team has the right to cancel its participation in the event and receive a partial refund of the registration fee. If the cancellation is submitted by Wednesday, 28 January 2025, the organizer retains 50% of the team’s total registration fee. If the team cancels after 28 January 2025, the registration fee is retained in full.

• A team that pre-registered must report to the registration staff, where the RED number taken from the selected building plot post is exchanged for lunch vouchers. Each team is responsible for placing its own sketch on the numbered post of the building plot.



In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to the period of the winter holidays, i.e., 20–22 February 2026, and the pre-registration and cancellation deadlines will be shifted accordingly.

If the event is cancelled entirely, all pre-registered teams will receive a full refund.
